Sorry for lack of updates. You can see promo shots and misc hotness on our tumblr site. We've been busy sending off dvds to fundraisers, started a partnership with Debauchery Seattle, cosponsored the 2011 Mr. Transman Contest in NYC, and are a sponsor of the Salacious Magazine fundraiser in Montreal this month. We also just sent out our Lube 101 postcards to Oklahoma and Wisconsin. I'll do a separate post on the Lube 101.

One piece of big news is our new series of DVDS, T-Wood's Rec Room, is about to launch. The Lube 101 postcards are inside the DVD case, and our DVD covers just went to press. We should be ready to release as soon as we get them back from the printer.

Ethical Porn....Feminist Porn

There is a trend to move away from the term Feminist Porn and use Ethical Porn instead. I feel rather weird about that. I think the term Feminist Porn puts the discourse squarely within a historical context that's important to have...one of power and gender politics. Why do I care, being a gay pornographer who's main production line is all male? Because gender politics and power don't really know boundaries. If we ignore homophobia, it doesn't go away...just like ignoring racism doesn't erase it. So, ignoring misogyny and butch/femme dialectic and anti porn rhetoric doesn't make it go away (butch/femme isn't a bad thing, but it often is used for and against queer porn).

But what are some basic similarities between feminist and ethical porn versus standard porn practices?
When we fell into starting Trannywood, we listened to talent and crew who had worked on other projects, and started to developed how we wanted to do business. That included:

Pay the talent. It may be less than what they can get elsewhere, but it's an important transaction, that we value their service and their continued good will. When it's volunteer or in kind payments, there is a strange dynamic...the producers may not feel as accountable to actually producing or supporting the product. If the project is worth doing, it's worth supporting.

Talent creates the physical scene. We've heard and viewed directors who really direct the sex. We wanted the talent to create the experience. We want to bear witness to how queers are having sex in this time and place, not create some fiction of what queer sex looks like.

Treat talent well. That means be clear on time alloted for shoot (and pay the accordingly). Provide snacks/beverages for getting energy back after the shoot. We let the actors have access to all their photos to use as they will. We ask that we be cited or a watermark used, but they are jointly held. We know a few online photo based sites that only let models use 2 of the pics for their portfolios, we don't like that idea. We provide a copy of the DVD. Many a talent have been promised this from producers, but we believe it's really important.

We don't hound the talent for free publicity....we hope they provide it because they had a good experience. We currently don't have the mechanism for a direct affiliate program, but we offer profit sharing beyond a certain point of sales.

If talent is interested in learning other aspects of production, we try and make room for that.

I really believe that ethical porn needs to be sustainable. It's gotta last as long as their is a desire for it. It saddens me when queer porn disappears from VOD or the shelves of feminist porn stores because the producers lost interest or ability to support it. It also frustrates me when porn projects have fundraising parties, even though they are income generating. Start up capital is one thing, but if you need to keep fundraising for each project, was the last project really that sustaining? It's a rant of mine, and I realize it's just a different business model than what we have here.

I do think there is a place for temporary porn that is ethical and feminist. Everything from wheat paste postering to tube sites could fall into that category.

In (fake) conclusion, cute underwear is the defining feature of ethical AND feminist porn.

I was talking to James Darling about the fact that he gets a lot of questions about where to find porn where the trans guy is bottoming to a cisgender guy (non trans guy) top. At T-Wood, we've always tried to mix it up. It's interesting how times have changed. When I (Ian Sparks) shot with Dex Hardlove for our first photo shoot, Dex wanted to bottom on film since he felt people only saw trans guys as topping. I think that tendency is still there in queer/alt/indie porn. We still try and mix it up but here's a run down of our movies and who's topping who.

Our little niche of the porn world is really beginning to ramp up. When we started, there was Buck with a bunch of straight movies and a few gay movies, Diesel had a few, Morty Diamond only had Trannyfags out and Good Vibes had long since stopped their movie projects.

2010 we have four movies out, and another in editing stages and another one beginning to film scenes. Buck continues to produce at least once a year, now mainly gay titles. Couch Surfers 2 is out and receiving great reviews...it's been picked up by our regular early adopters www.smittenkittenonline.com, www.early2bed.com, and our first national retailer www.goodvibes.com. It can also be found at The Tool Shed in Milwaukee.

We are happy to say it is also available through nakedsword and our affiliate theater at www.trannywoodpicturestheater.com and will soon be available on goodvibes.com streaming vidoe on demand. It is also up on gamelink.com.

It has also been sent to the Feminist Porn Awards for a possible nomination.

While we've been rushing to get Couch Surfers 2 out, we've also been at work with our new sibling studio, Dolores Park Studios. DPS is a queer, all genders project and our first movie has had two long days of shooting with one remaining. It's increadible! I'll be posting some behind the scenes and other still pics soon.

But we haven't forgotten Trannywood of course. Trannywood Gone Wild is finally in post production with editing going well. Lube wresting, leather bear and cub action, gloryhole 3 way...it really is wild.

We also have begun planning the next Trannywood movie...but for now, that has to wait.

Couch Surfers 2 Release Date Dec 7

Couch Surfers 2 Release day is December 7, 2009

Years in the making, Couch Surfers 2 follows some of the same guys from the popular Couch Surfers movie, but adds a few new dimensions to the format. Instead of group scenes, each scene pairs up two of Trannywood’s actors to focus on the heat between these trans and non trans men.

The movie is constructed with most of the action happening at the same time and for viewers of Couch Surfers, they’ll recognize elements and timelines from that movie.

Dex Hardlove starts off chilling on the infamous red couch before heading upstairs to relieve some pressure. He wanders around passes up a furry ass until he spies Cupid groping himself in a porn pit. A shortened version of this scene (which appears on the bonus disc) was screened at the 2009 SF Trannyfest Film Festival to an enthusiastic audience.

Lube Boy is joined on the couch by Rowan MacLachlan and Marlo Davis. The two bears go at it after Lube Boy heads upstairs. Rowan and Marlo utilize both their strap ons as well as their own equipment in a first for trans male porn, having two non trans guys strap on and play hard.

Back to Lube Boy wandering the club and finding the furry ass that Dex had passed up. It belongs to none other than Ian Sparks. The two of them heat up the screen with kissing, biting, slapping and some power topping by Lube Boy.

The final scene of the feature disc is Mark Van Helsing and Peter Peas, which was part of the teaser opening to Couch Surfers. Fans couldn’t believe we didn’t include a real version of that scene in Couch Surfers, and that’s because we were saving it for Couch Surfers 2. Mark’s ass is stretched in it’s trademark fashion, and Peter gets a workout as well.

The bonus disc includes a full scene featuring Rowan MacLachlan and Dorian Darkalley (both featured in our next movie), trailer for Couch Surfers 2, behind the scenes photo gallery as well as the festival version of Dex & Cupid.

Trannywood has a full schedule of filming and releasing in 2010, which we hope is our break out year, further establishing ourselves in the queer/alt/indy porn community.

2009 saw Couch Surfers receive nominations at the GayVN awards as well as the Feminist Porn Awards in Toronto. We know that Couch Surfers 2 will be received with the same excitement and satisfaction.

In addition to the two discs, the DVD package for Couch Surfers 2 includes a humorous palm card the Top Five Reasons to Fuck a Transguy produced by tm4m.org.

Trannywood Plans for 2010 and beyond

We are lining up a schedule of films and films in development for the next two plus years. They look amazing!

Couch Surfers 2 will be released in Dec 2009

We plan on picking up some scenes at the annual Trannywood New Years Eve Party.

We'll break through a couple of the Trannywood style guides in December with a feature film that has elements of the 1970's but not porn, it's not retro or a parody, but has elements of those genre...it's hot, and it is porn, just not truly 1970's porn. There are quite a few surprises in it beginning with not being our normal location.

March will see the planned release of Trannywood Gone Wild, which has a classic lube wrestling scene, as well as two scenes filmed last year at EROS...a hot bear and cub scene and a really hot three way.

March also sees the shooting of a project we've had in development for a while. It's a wild two wheeled adventure with lots of wrenches and hot guys geared up for fun.

June is the planned release of our January feature...and it's pride so we may sneak in a shoot with visiting hotties.

July will be the shooting of another classic scenario in gay porn....the warehouse of men and a submissive bottom.

I hope to begin picking up scenes as I travel to events this year too.

So far we are on target with this schedule, but I won't lay out any more, because I figure we'll be out of synch by July, lol.

It's crunch time with Couch Surfers 2. It's all done...master DVDs authored and burned. Tomorrow I'm packaging up all that goes to the replication plant. It's been a tough journey...with break ins, equipment and editing stolen, staff changes, the economy.

I'm putting on a producer had and scratching together some money for the replication. We should make our window for awards in 2010 and some stores for the holidays.

And we have big...but doable plans for 2010....branching out, shooting out, traveling, you name it. It's very exciting!

So, its been a busy year at Trannywood.

We were at the 2008 Trans Health Conference, IDKE, Gender Odyssey Conferences. We also sponsored the SF Trans March and a ton of local benefits around the country.

We were nominated for a GayVN award for Couch Surfers, but didn't get it. It was a blast at the Castro Theater with a ton of our guys and their partners.

We were nominated for the Feminist Porn Awards sponsored by Good For Her. We won an honorable mention (which I think needs to be renamed Up and Cumming). I was able to be there and it was so much fun!!!! SF really turned it out in attendance, nominations and awards.

We had two break ins at our home base, and our computers and back up drives were stolen. Luckily, we had raw footage and some scenes saved off site. We've spent the last 3 months resurrecting Couch Surfers 2...and it's even better this time around. It's a tightly woven movie with 4 scenes, all couples plus a bonus disc that includes another full scene.

We are still collecting more technology, and cameras to finish Trannywood Gone Wild, but the behind the scenes/interviews are edited, so that project is moving along very fast.

Will definitely have more updates soon.

Finally, a CS 2 update
As those of you reading this know... Couch Surfers 2 was about to go off to the final sound/credits editor in April when the final version and our computers were stolen in a messy break in. We have now reconstructed it, better than before, seriously and is off to the final editor in a few days.

There's a pg version of one scene that I'll probably post on x tube, since it's still too steamy for you tube.

And we were able to get 2 or 3 of the scenes down to less than 15 minutes so they are festival ready!

Whoo hoo!

Congrats to Pink & White, Morty Diamond and Buck Angel as well as the other nominees for the Feminist Porn Awards.

Cubbyholes didn't make the cut, don't know why exactly.

So to vent, here is a list of what we value....

Safe sex, we believe porn should show ways of having sex that his hot and at least reduce the possibility of harm.

We value the talent. Our talent (in front, behind and post production) are committed to the message of Trannywood, and we wouldn't exist without them. We pay all our talent, at least a small stipend for their hard work and their creativity. Some tech folks have donated their time and/or invoiced us significantly lower than their market rate. We also have a profit sharing program to continue to link our actors long after the first round of sales.

We see our talent as more than just an actor to be directed. Our actors help define the scene, often directing the action, some have become directors, editors and videographers.

We support other indy film makers, and fundraisers for surgeries and other emergencies.

We support community conferences over adult industry conferences. We think our message is better shaped by the community we serve than by trying to fit established "standards" of porn.

Whew, there, I feel better now.

We had a great showing of a dozen Trannywood folk who attended the GayVN awards.

We were nominated in Best Alternative Release...which had three nominees....Buckback Mountain, Cubbyholes, and Naked Boys Singing.....and the winner was....Naked Boys Singing.

Oh well. Buck was also nominated in another category...the first time he had been nominated on his own in the GayVNs...but he didn't win that either.

We are up for a few more awards this year...will keep you updated.

And sad to say, Bi Apple, our favorite for the Bi Category didn't win there either.

Well, Trannywood Pictures wasn't nominated for any XBiz Awards. I was hoping for Emerging LGBT Film Company, maybe they wanted to see we are here to stay...so, we'll see in 2009.

Congrats to Buck Angel for two nominations, best LGBT Feature for Buckback Mountain, and LGBT Performer of the year.

Now, we'll just see what the Gay AVN Awards have to say, I think next week.

Big News...

A year ago we accepted delivery of our first film "Cubbyholes: Trans Men in Action". This week, we expect delivery of our second film "Couch Surfers: Trans Men in Action"!

We expect to hear from two award shows in the next few weeks. Not holding our breath...but you never know.

It's been a wild ride, film festivals, articles, interviews, blogs, podcasts, Ian Foxe even was on Satellite Radio.

Hi! Trannywood has had a very active Myspace page for the last year. About 2 months into it, Myspace deleted it, but it's grown even larger.

I'm planning on archiving blog stuff from there to here, and give some more behind the scenes info like I do on Live Journal.

Hope I stay within the boundaries here...but I have seen quite a few furry butts on other peoples blogger sites : )
